Winter Shootout

 Lake Louise, Alberta Canada

February 14-21, 2009

Join us at the "top of the world" in Lake Louise!
top of the world-lake Louise

The TSC Winter Shootout takes us to Banff area, specifically the village of Lake Louise, all of which is uniquely located in Banff National Park.  Home to over 1,000 glaciers, Banff National Park is Canada’s first national park and one of the oldest in the world.  Natural attractions include towering peaks, ancient glaciers, colorful alpine meadows, and water-carved canyons.  Hunting is illegal and human development is limited; consequently, wildlife viewing is some of the best in the world.

The town of Banff and village of Lake Louise are essentially pockets of civilization in the wilderness.  Banff is roughly 90 minutes (75 miles) west of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway, and Lake Louise is another 45 minutes (36 miles) further west of Banff.  We will fly into Calgary on United Airlines and travel the roughly 2 hour-15 minute scenic trip to Lake Louise on a charter bus.

This trip focuses on three dimensions of “superiority.

Superiority in skiing:

Lake Louise is Canada’s largest and most picturesque ski/snowboard area.  Located at the doorsteps of the Fairmont Chateau hotel, Lake Louise has over 4,200 acres of terrain spread over four mountain faces with beautiful terrain that is both vast and varied. It has abundant natural snowfall, but is also backed up by Canada’s largest snowmaking system.

 spectacular views

Lake Louise is but one of three ski areas comprising Banff area’s SkiBig3, which also includes Sunshine Village (40 minute shuttle) and Ski Banff@Norquay (minutes from downtown Banff).  Lift tickets are valid at all three ski areas and include free shuttle buses.

Superiority in Accommodations:

We will be staying at the beautiful 5-star Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel, which overlooks the Canadian Rockies, the lake, and a majestic glacier. The Chateau is just minutes from the base of the Lake Louise ski area. The Health Club is open daily and includes an indoor heated pool, whirlpool, steam room, showers and change rooms, and fitness center. In addition to the Escape Spa/Salon and 20 shops located within the Chateau, there are numerous mouth-watering dining opportunities onsite (restaurants, lounges, saloons, deli), several with evening entertainment, as well as in the local vicinity.  TSC events (Welcome Party and Awards Banquet) will be held in the elegant Victoria Ballroom of the Chateau.  Among other amenities, all guest rooms include cable television, in-room pay movies, ceiling fans, coffee maker, kettle, hair dryer, iron/ironing board, telephone with voice mail, and data-line capability.

 sleigh rides

Superiority in Activities:

ice walks   heliskiing  dog sledding

With its unusual location within a national park, Banff / Lake Louise offers much more than just skiing.  A “few” suggestions include ice canyon walks, sleigh rides, ice skating on the frozen Bow River, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, airplane or heli-tours, dog sledding, soaking in the hot springs, super spas, dining, shopping, day-trip excursions, a visit to one or more of the half-dozen museums or even more art galleries…….in other words, there’s bound to be something for everyone!

What's included:

The trip includes 7 night’s accommodations based on double occupancy, roundtrip air/ground transportation, all TSC activities and races, mountain tours, Club St. Bernard activities, and Parks Canada national park fee.  Special discounts on lessons, ski rental equipment, and lift tickets are available.  Pre- and post-trip extensions are offered to Jasper Park Lodge (non-ski) and Fernie ski resort (includes 2-day lift tickets).
